It’s time for a weekly check-in!
I guess my anxiety finally caught up to me, because this week was a super slumpy, not-so-great mental health week. Ah, well.
We’re taking the kiddo to see Christmas lights this weekend and probably putting our own tree up, so I’m looking forward to that, especially since it’ll be the kittens’ first Christmas and I can’t wait to see what they do with the decorations! We’ve all already accepted that it might be an ornament-less tree this year, though thankfully, our tree is pre-lit so we’ll at least have those even if the little fluffballs try to destroy things. 😂
Do you ever look back at your recent reads while you’re in a slump and suddenly have that lightbulb moment where you’re like, “Oh… this slump is YOUR fault!”
That’s me at Just Like Mother right now. I’ve been trying to figure out why my reading anxiety spiked suddenly over the past several days, and I knew it wasn’t just IRL anxiety leaking over, but I couldn’t put my finger on it until just now. That book left me with so many damn mixed feelings that I STILL don’t even know how to review it or even how to process it!
On a happier note, I re-read Vol. 1 of Harrow County so I could finally continue the series, and it’s so good.
- Just Like Mother // Anne Heltzel ⭐⭐⭐
- Harrow County, Vol. 1-4 // Cullen Bunn ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
For now, this section every week will be dedicated to the 3 books that I have the least pages remaining in! Unfortunately, I read very little over the past week, so these 3 are the exact same ones from last week’s post. (too lazy to re-arrange the images even though Cryptids should go before Alice now)
📚 priority reads 📚
- Vespertine // Margaret Rogerson → 116pg left
- Alice // Christina Henry → 224pg left
- The United States of Cryptids // J.W. Ocker → 216pg left
📚 total current reads: 16 📚
I haven’t been gaming or watching movies this week, either, because apparently when my anxiety flares up, I just sit around disassociating and playing mobile games a lot—who knew? Hopefully I’ll have a more exciting update for this part next week. I think we’re going to watch Smile this weekend, which I’m pretty excited about!
Heads up: you can always friend me on Letterboxd if you wanna see my movie mini reviews!
What are you reading right now, or what did you recently finish? Is anything exciting happening in your life? Let me know in the comments!

November 21, 2022Thank you so much, Dini! The lights were so much fun and the whole weekend of family time helped a lot. ? We didn’t get the tree put up just yet, so we’re planning to when my spouse gets off of work today and I’m so excited!

November 25, 2022It’s been SO good, I just don’t want it to end! It’s rare that I put off finishing a book JUST because I’m sad it will be over, but I have been savoring the ending of this one!

November 29, 2022I totally know it. Dini read book two and said it’s really good! So it doesn’t quite end with this book… you have so much more 🙂
