2023 Reading Goals: 3rd Quarter Check-in!

October 10, 2023

75% there: how is my progress on my 2023 goals?

Another quarter of the year is over, so it’s time to check in on my 2023 goals again and see where I’m at!

1. Goodreads challenge

I completed my Goodreads goal on August 5th! Right now, I’m at 162 books read for the year.

2. 2023 TBR

I picked 12 books for my 2023 TBR, with the goal of reading 1 per month. I’m still very behind on this one! I’ve only read 5 so far, so I need to average 2.33 books per month off of this list to catch up. Here’s what’s left on my list…

  • Breakable Things // Cassandra Khaw
  • Radiance // Grace Draven
  • The Shadow of What Was Lost // James Islington
  • Kaiju Preservation Society // John Scalzi
  • Marla // Jonathan Janz
  • Exquisite Corpse // Poppy Z. Brite
  • Pet Sematary // Stephen King

3. Seasonal TBRs

I’m still a bit behind on my seasonal TBRs, but doing better than I was in my last check-in! Here’s what’s left from each list…

  • WINTER:
    • Nettle & Bone // T. Kingfisher
  • SPRING:
    • Unbreakable // Mira Grant
  • SUMMER:
    • Night’s Edge // Liz Kerin
    • The Jasad Heir // Sara Hashem
  • AUTUMN:
    • Bloom // Delilah S. Dawson
    • In These Hallowed Halls // Marie O’Regan & Paul Kane
    • Horror Library, Vol. 6 // Eric J. Guignard
    • Our Last Echoes // Kate Alice Marshall
    • Linghun // Ai Jiang

4. 2023 series goals

I picked 10 series I wanted to finish in 2023, and I’m still making pretty slow progress! I’ve completed 3 series from the list and made progress on one more. Misty and I are planning on buddy reading quite a few of these and I really appreciate her helping motivate me! Here’s what’s left on my list…

  • The Folk of the Air // Holly Black
    • The Queen of Nothing
    • How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories
  • Fallen Empire // Grace Draven
    • Dragon Unleashed
    • Raven Unveiled
  • The Aurora Cycle // Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
    • Aurora Burning
    • Aurora’s End
  • Nevernight Chronicle // Jay Kristoff
    • Darkdawn
  • Stalking Jack the Ripper // Kerri Maniscalco
    • Becoming the Dark Prince
    • Capturing the Devil
  • Kingdom of the Wicked // Kerri Maniscalco
    • Kingdom of the Feared
  • The Lunar Chronicles // Marissa Meyer
    • Winter
    • Stars Above

5. Make smaller TBRs

I stuck to this goal REALLY well until October! 😅

6. Read 4+ TBR jar picks per month

Nope, I haven’t been sticking to this goal very well lately, but I actually plan on changing this goal up a bit next year so I’m not mad about it.

7. Fewer current reads at one time

I did end up going over my “6 concurrent reads” limit for a few weeks, but I’m down to 5 right now! I plan on lowering this limit even a little bit more in 2024, so I’m glad I’ve done well with sticking to this goal for most of this year.

    1. You’re doing great Destiny. I’m kind of scared to see how I’m doing on my goals and challenges for the year. I feel like I’m not doing as good as I think I am lol.

      1. Thank you! Aww, I hope you’re doing better than you think you are lol. I was surprised at my progress on some of these – both in a good and bad way, because some of them I thought I was further along in 😂

    1. I completely avoided using my tbr jar loll. I’ll uhh start again NEXT year. I’m currently on 10 books cr ahhahahahHAHAHAHAH. No, it’s uhhh no🤡t a problem at all 🤡

      1. LOLLLL I love this though, one of these days we’ll figure out those shorter current read stacks 😂 or we’ll just continue drowning, yk, whatever works 🤡 (cries in 8 current reads and growing)

    1. Loved seeing your progress! I hope you enjoy Our Last Echoes, it’s so good!! 🥰 I’ve been pretty successful at making smaller TBRs but I definitely get the temptation to read all the spooky books! 👻

Say hello! ♥
