April 2019 Haul/TBR Checkpoint [bringing back an old blog series with a new spin!]

July 6, 2020

If you’ve been following my blog for a while (at least since last April), you may remember my haul & TBR “roundup” posts, where once every 3-6 months, I’d take a look back at old TBR and haul posts and figure up the stats for how many of those books I had read since the original posts. I had a lot of fun doing these, so I’m not sure why I stopped, but I was recently inspired by Misty to pick up the series again — and this time, I’m changing each post to focus on just one month’s haul and TBR at a time!

I think I’d like each checkpoint post (previously named “roundup”, but I like this idea of a progress check-in term better) to tackle the posts from exactly a year prior, so I’ll be doing these once a week or so until I get caught up, and then they’ll just come once monthly. I hope you all like seeing these updates as much as I like writing them! ?

Side note: I will not be counting library loans or Kindle freebies in these stats.

So, do you ever look back on your old TBRs and hauls to check your progress? Is it usually better or worse than mine? ? Mine isn’t great in this checkpoint, but I’m hoping these stats will get progressively better — partially because I haul less books than I used to in the average month, and partially because I’m trying to get better about actually reading things shortly after hauling them!

    1. Yay so glad you decided to start doing these posts again. Hopefully this formatting will work out better for you.

      1. Thank you! It was honestly so much more fun than the way I used to do it, and it felt good to do because it was really interesting to look back on the old haul and see these books I’ve pretty much forgotten I had, but still REALLY want to read!

        1. Yeah it definitely reminds you of what you have and makes you excited for the books again. Glad you liked doing it this way.

    1. I love this idea! I don’t tend to haul very many books, and I definitely don’t make TBRs, since I’m a mood reader, so I wouldn’t be able to make these kinds of post myself. But I really love seeing other people’s progress and I especially find it interesting to see which books are prioritized and such! I think that waiting a very months before checking in is key though because I know that at least for myself even if I’m super excited for a book, it can take me up to 3 months to read it because of how things work out! And that’s for my most anticipated books!

      1. Thank you! I’m the same way on taking a while to pick up even the most anticipated stuff. I have books I pre-ordered and counted down the days to their release, and then that was a year ago and I still haven’t read them. ? I should probably work on not doing that anymore!

    1. Oh this was fun to read! Good to see if you actually read the books you buy haha!

    1. Oh I love this idea. I would love to check in on some of mine but the shame might kill me alone LOL I don’t think you have done that badly honestly. Quite a few where you got at least half done!

    1. This might be so silly, but I really enjoyed how you formatted this post! It made it really easy to read and I really enjoyed it (though I’m terrified to try and do this myself, as I feel it would just show how behind I am on reading everything).

      1. That isn’t silly at all, thank you SO much for telling me! Formatting is something I’m actually always really self-conscious about because I worry what works for me won’t be very readable for others, so this comment means very much to me. ♥ Thank you so much. And I feel you, it is actually a little bit shameful at first because it feels like people will think less of me, but I just try to remind myself that this is a good way to hold myself accountable and hopefully watch myself make positive progress! ?? That said, I don’t blame you if it’s not for you, but if you do ever decide to do it, I would love to see! 😀

        1. Aw, yay! No, I have ALWAYS been so impressed by how you format your posts, but this one might be my favorite! I know you’ll make positive progress (and I hope no one is using this to think less of you; it’s your reading life that you’re sharing, but the amount you read shouldn’t be used for judgement!).

If I do decide to do a post like this, you’ll be the first to know! <3

Say hello! ♥
