Tag Time: Creatures of the Night Book Tag

February 21, 2024

It’s time for the creatures of the night” book tag!

I saw Tammy do this tag a few months ago and have had it sitting in my bookmarks ever since, but I keep forgetting to do it! It’s such a fun tag and I’m actually even going to borrow Tammy’s idea of highlighting two books for each answer: one book I loved and one book that’s still on my TBR.

🦇 vampire 🦇

READ: The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires — I absolutely adored this book! It’s full of heart and southern charm, but it’s also very creepy at times. It tackles a lot of social issues head-on too, mainly domestic abuse and racism, so heads up for those content warnings if you pick this one up!

TBR: Empire of the Vampire — I can’t believe I haven’t picked this up yet, but I’m determined to read it (and book #2 in the series) some time this year!

🐺 werewolf 🐺

READ: The Wehrwolf — this is a very short novella that you can read on Kindle Unlimited (it even has the audiobook if you have KU), and it was incredible! I need to read more from this author for sure.

TBR: Mongrels — I love SGJ’s writing and I know I’ll love this. I tried reading it once before but wasn’t in the right mental headspace for something so heavy, so I’m looking forward to trying it again soon.

🧟‍♂️ zombie 🧟‍♂️

READ: Where the Dead Go to Die — I feel like I haven’t shut up about this since reading it a couple of months ago, but it’s so freaking good! It’s a zombie story with a twist: becoming a zombie is a slow process treated like a terminal illness and the main character is a nurse at a zombie “hospice”.

TBR: Feed — this has been on my TBR for ages and I’m planning on joining a group read for it in a few months. I’m excited!

👻 ghost 👻

READ: Bound Feet — I definitely don’t talk about this novella enough, but it’s really sad and haunting and gorgeous. Kelsea’s writing amazes me every time!

TBR: Echoes — this is a whole anthology of ghost stories and I’ve been meaning to read it since it came out, but it’s like 800 pages and that feels like a very big commitment. 😂

🧙‍♀️ witch 🧙‍♀️

READ: The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches — I didn’t really expect to love this book as much as I did, but it was SO sweet and had such good depictions of trauma and healing!

TBR: The Honey Witch — the cover for this book is SO beautiful 😍 and I’m so excited for it!

🧚‍♂️ fairy 🧚‍♂️

READ: An Enchantment of Ravens — I will never stop gushing about this book and how fun its depictions of the fae courts are!

TBR: Fortuna Sworn — another book that has been on my TBR waaay too long. I need so many more hours in a day just to make a dent in my romantasy TBR. 🤣

👿 demon 👿

READ: The Hellbound Heart — this counts, right? I’m saying it counts. I loved this novella and I love the Hellraiser films.

TBR: The Exorcist — I actually feel like an odd one out when it comes to the original movie adaptation because I’m not a fan and don’t find it scary at all, but I’ve always heard the book is way creepier and I’d like to find out for myself.

👽 alien 👽

READ: Black Tide — I seriously think about this book so often. It was so unique and fun!

TBR: Choosing Theo — I want to read more alien romances and I’ve heard this series is excellent!

🦸‍♂️ superpowered human 🦸‍♂️

READ: The Bone Season — I know I’m probably supposed to pick a superhero book, but I don’t really read any of those! This series has humans with psychic powers, so I’m using it. It’s such a good series that I don’t talk about enough!

TBR: Renegades — like I said, I don’t really read superhero books… but I do really want to read this superhero series!

    1. I’m so glad you did this tag! It’s a lot of fun. Mongrels is very heavy and sad, but it’s one of my favorite SGJ books😁

    1. Such a fun Tag! Makes me wish it was Halloween already 😂 Thank you for tagging me ❤️

I love witchy books so much and I’m very excited for The Honey Witch as well, the cover is gorgeous 🥰 I really enjoyed Renegades (though I should read the final book 😅)! I’m not usually a superhero person either, but I loved how the book portrayed them!

      1. Right?! I always want it to be Halloween time! 😂 Omg, the Honey Witch cover is SO beautiful! And I’m so glad you enjoyed Renegades, that makes me feel even more optimistic about it!
