Wrap Ups

May Wrap: so many graphic novels!

June 5, 2019

Beware, this month’s post is a long one… but it’s not nearly as much reading as it looks like, given that most of my May reading was graphic novels or DNF titles. ?? Yeah… not my most enjoyable reading month on average, but I did have a few gems that really stuck out!

Movies & TV Watched this Month:

  • The Incredibles 2 — 2.5 ⭐
    • I finally watched this, and I was so disappointed. It was a 1- or 1.5-star watch for me until the last 20 minutes.
  • A Simple Favor — 5 ⭐
    • AMAZING. A new favorite for sure. Blake Lively in those suits? Exuding dom-les energy? RIP me.
  • 10 Things I Hate About You — 4.5 ⭐
    • I fulfilled a missed rite of passage as a 90s kid by finally watching this and, no surprise, I adored it.
  • The Final Destination — 3 ⭐
    • I think this was the only FD movie I hadn’t seen all the way through. It was probably my least fave in the franchise, but it had some fun moments.

Music I Loved This Month:

I finally stopped listening to flora cash for two seconds and went back to obsessing over Ice Nine Kill‘s Silver Scream album, but I also spent a lot of the month reliving my glory days in a brand new way by developing an obsession with Neck Deep.

I can’t believe you hadn’t seen 10 things before now!! So glad you loved it though xx (Have you seen Empire Records?!)

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries August 25, 2019 at 1:10 am

Noooo, I haven’t! Should I add it to my list?

      • Reply Meeghan reads August 25, 2019 at 4:24 am

OMG YES!! It’s a cult 90’s movie, and it’s amazing. Really young Robin Tunney, Liv Tyler and Renee Zellweger. It’s about this bunch of teens who work at a record store, and it’s just one day in the store – Rex Manning Day. It’s hilarious and sweet and crazy.

I’ve been hearing that A Simple Favor was a really good movie and now your thoughts really make me want to watch it! Have you read the book as well? I’ve heard mixed reviews on that one but at least the movie has been mostly positive reviews! I also love that you read so much graphic novels! It makes me want to get back into it. Also, you make me want to read more contemporary books like The Kissing Test! Thanks Destiny <3

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries August 25, 2019 at 1:11 am

Oh my gosh, A Simple Favor really was so good! No, I haven’t read the book – a few people told me to skip it and only watch the movie so I think this is one of those rare times where I won’t try the book lol! <3

  • Reply Deanna June 5, 2019 at 9:48 am

OMG so many graphic novels. I’m so glad you liked the Bride Test, I still need to read it.

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries August 25, 2019 at 1:11 am

This is a late reply so you might have by now and I just forgot, but if not, I hope you like(d) The Bride Test!

Ahhhh!!! Thank you <3 All the love for you, Destiny x Your wrap ups make my wallet hurt 😉

We both had our rite of passage for 10 Things I Hate About You! It’s funny we both talked about it and watched it around the same time. I already need to watch it again lol 🙂 so glad you had a great reading month, especially with Sorcery

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries August 25, 2019 at 1:12 am

Haha I’m still laughing over us both watching it around the same time and being so overdue 😀

      • Reply MetalPhantasmReads August 26, 2019 at 2:22 pm

LOL I know! I saw that and its a happy coincidence

  • Reply mistysbookspace June 5, 2019 at 3:57 pm

I wish my library had more graphic novels.

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries August 25, 2019 at 1:13 am

I wish so too for your sake! Do you have inter-library loan as an option? That’s basically what I do. Our library branch is part of a statewide group of 60-ish libraries and we have a really efficient/easy/free ILL system set up between the branches. It just takes a little while, like I just got Sheets by Brenna Thummler from another branch but I think it was in transit for a little over 3 weeks before getting to my branch.

      • Reply mistysbookspace August 25, 2019 at 12:07 pm

Yeah my library has that as well. I tried getting The Walking Dead graphic novels sent to me but it ended up being the wrong one. Once I figure out some other that I would like to read I will try it again.

        • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries August 26, 2019 at 7:57 am

Oh no! They send me the wrong one from other branches sometimes and it’s so annoying. That is one bad thing about graphic novels, a lot of libraries don’t catalog them very well so it’s like all the separate volumes show up as the same one! :/

          • mistysbookspace August 26, 2019 at 9:11 am

Yeah I’m pretty sure that’s what happened.

I read Lucky Penny this month as well after you mentioned it in one of your previous posts and I really enjoyed it! I’m also so excited to see that you enjoyed The Right Swipe! I can’t wait to read that book! I got to meet the author at BookCon and she was so sweet!

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries August 25, 2019 at 1:13 am

I’m so glad you liked Lucky Penny! 😀 And I love that you got to meet Alisha Rai, that’s awesome. She seems like a sweetheart!

My Brother’s Husband was a delight to read! And I’ve never seen 10 Things I Hate About You yet, which is such a shame! I should really get on it, but hopefully with the right company. I’m also so excited for Sorcery of Thorns and I’m supposed to have won a copy but it hasn’t arrived yet so I’ll have to ask about it :((

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries August 25, 2019 at 1:14 am

Oh no, you should totally watch 10 Things I Hate About You if you get the chance! I mean, I don’t feel like it changed my life or anything, but it was super cute lol. And a baby Heath Ledger, sigh. 🙁 I might have choked up a few times just seeing him so young and happy. Did your copy of Sorcery ever arrive? I’m hoping so! 😀

      • Reply Caitlin @ Caitlin Althea August 25, 2019 at 5:09 am

it arrived, and I read it. 5 STARS!! it may be my fave book of the year so far, and I would truly die for Silas

        • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries August 26, 2019 at 7:56 am

YESSSS! This makes me so happy! Omg, Silas. <3 Sweet, flawed, precious little Silas. I bawled over him.

  • Reply Janina @ love letters June 7, 2019 at 9:47 am

I’m so excited to read The Right Swipe and Sorcery of Thorns! I’m also really interested in Monstress and Infidel (I definitely don’t read enough Graphic Novels.) Sorry that this month wasn’t your most enjoyable (even if you had a few gems) — I hope June is going to be (even) better reading-wise. c:

It’s been a while since I’ve read a graphic novel, but one of my sons just started reading The Umbrella Academy, so I thought I might pick it up, too.

Thank you so much for linking to my review of Keep This To Yourself, and I am really looking forward to you reading that one!!! You had so much reading, and I am inspired to tackle some graphic novels now.

  • Reply Ellyn June 14, 2019 at 9:44 pm

WOW, yes! You took the words right out of my mouth. The Incredibles 2 is SO disappointing!

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries August 25, 2019 at 1:15 am

Omg, I’m so glad I’m not the only one who thought so! I honestly was just so bored and unimpressed 🙁
