October TBR: at least I tried to keep this one manageable!

October 3, 2022

Another month, another TBR ~

September was an INCREDIBLY chaotic month for our family — in some good AND bad ways!

On one hand, we had our first real fun “outing” since pre-COVID (we went to an aquarium!) and we started doing some of our grocery shopping in-person again, so I spent more time out of the house this past month than I have during the past two years combined, I bet. 😅 We’re still masking and being cautious, but it was nice to get out of the house (and to pick my own fruits & veggies out, lol!).

On the other hand, we had some unexpected home repairs: one that went exceptionally smoothly, and the other that was a DISASTER and resulted in our entire house being without water for about 36 hours. 😭 That was a nightmare! But they were both things that needed doing, especially because… our family is finally setting our big moving plan into motion! (For anyone who’s missed hearing about this, we’re aiming to relocate to New England – maybe upstate NY – by the end of 2023)

September goal check-in:

  1. Read 60+ pages per day ❌ Nope! I missed the goal 7 days, I think.
  2. Catch up on my Goodreads goal ❌ I’m 3 behind, so I made progress!
  3. Catch up on reviews ❌ NOPE lol

My goals for October are:

  1. Read every day (no page goal this time!)
  2. Catch up on my Goodreads goal (repeating this goal until I get there)
  3. Catch up on reviews (I REFUSE to end 2022 with a stack of unwritten reviews like I did the last few years!!!)

october’s picks:

I managed to narrow my TBR down to 10 books this month, which is still a lot considering I also am carrying over a LOT of current reads, but it’s less than I put on my TBR list the past few months, so… it’s something? 🤷‍♀️ Of course I’m reading a handful of spooky books in honor of October, but then again, horror is my most-read genre, so that’s nothing special here. 😅

🎃 Alice // Christina Henry: TBR jar pick
🎃 In Darkness, Delight: Creatures of the Night // Andrew Lennon & Evans Light: TBR jar pick
🎃 My Dark Vanessa // Kate Elizabeth Russell: buddy read with Misty
🎃 The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires // Grady Hendrix: 2022 TBR & autumn TBR pick
🎃 Pestilence // Laura Thalassa: Malli’s “12 in 12” recommendation for me
🎃 Sin Eater // Megan Campisi: buddy read with Sarah (if their library gets it in time 🤞), and this was Cathy’s “12 in 12” recommendation for me

🎃 Small Spaces // Katherine Arden: our Books Out of the Blue discord pick for October!
🎃 Below // Laurel Hightower: one of the TBR & Beyond group reads
🎃 Hide // Kiersten White: one of the TBR & Beyond group reads AND the Horror Aficionados group read
🎃 Empire of the Vampire // Jay Kristoff: buddy read with my spouse ♥
🎃 A Dowry of Blood // S.T. Gibson: leftover from September’s TBR, and it’s on my 2022 TBR, and Riley recommended it for my “12 in 12” TBR!
🎃 The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy // Megan Bannen: buddy read with Jamie & Ashley!

    1. That’s exciting about your plans to relocate. My hubby and I are also in the early stages of thinking about moving. It’s scary but exciting! Looks like a fun TBR😁

    1. That’s exciting about your big move! Good luck with your move! I’m sorry about your house and not having water for +36 hours. I hope you enjoy your reads this month. I’m currently reading The Haunting of Hill House. On my tbr for October is What moves the Dead, rereading Every Heart a Doorway, Nightstrider, Revival, and The Picture of Dorian Gray.

    1. I’ve had Empire of the Vampire and The Southern Book Club’s Guide on my list for way too long. Trying to whittle down my NetGalley shelf so I can read some of my own books.

    1. Good luck with your TBR! ❤️👻 I’m also planning on reading Hide! I really hope you enjoy Small Spaces, as it’s one of my favorite Middle Grade Series 🥰 The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy also sounds right up my alley! 👀

      1. Sorry for the super late reply, but thank you, Caro!! Small Spaces was soooo good 🥹 I already have book 2 and just ordered book 3, and have book 4 on my Christmas list for my family! 😂 So I guess that tells you how much I loved it!

    1. I definitely want to get to Southern Book Club soon – which I thought would’ve been my first Hendrix book and not My Best Friend’s Exorcism.
I’m hoping to read House of Hunger by Alexis Henderson this month! Along with finishing 5 other books that I need to read – you know how it goes 😄

      1. I definitely do know how it goes 😂 I hope you like Southern Book Club when you get to it! Did you end up reading House of Hunger, and if so, did you like it? I want to read that soon!

    1. *chants* Pestilence! Pestilence! Pestilence! Hehe I’m excited to hear your thoughts on it! Let me know if you want my cw/tw list for it. ♥

Say hello! ♥
