Seasonal TBR Jar — Spring Surprises!

March 14, 2019

Spring is here in just a few days (YAY! Goodbye, winter!), and that means it’s time for another seasonal TBR jar! If you didn’t see my first post in this series back in September, I’ll give a quick rundown:

The seasonal TBR jar is a series idea I came up with in which, every season, I make a list of books from my owned TBR that fit the “mood” of that season! Then, throughout the next three months, I will randomly pull titles from that jar to motivate me to work on my backlist.

My winter theme was graphic novels, anthologies, novellas, and contemporary titles, and these are the titles I marked off the list during winter:

  • Fence, Vol. 1 — C. S. Pacat ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • At the Cemetery Gates: Vol. 2 — John Brhel & Joe Sullivan ⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • The Sea Was a Fair Master — Calvin Demmer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • We Should All Be Feminists — Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie ⭐⭐
  • The Lost Sisters — Holly Black ⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • Dead Lake — Darcy Coates ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • Damaged Goods — Talia Hibbert ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • Witching Hour Theatre — Jonathan Janz ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • It Ends With Us — Colleen Hoover ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

My winter jar had 40 titles in total, so I’d say 9/40 (or 22.5%) is pretty good!

Now, for my spring jar:

In spring, I really like fun reads, whether they’re fluffy, cute, or just quick-paced. Because of that, I decided to have 4 categories of 10 titles each again:
1. graphic novels & manga
2. YA contemporary
3. romance
4. horror shorts (150pg or less)

(you can view my shelf with all of these titles here!)

Graphic novels & manga:

  1. Unnatural, Vol. 1 — Mirka Andolfo
  2. Moonstruck, Vol. 1 — Grace Ellis

  5. Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me — Mariko Tamaki
  6. Spell on Wheels — Kate Leth
  7. The Witch Boy — Molly Ostertag
  8. Fruits Basket Collector’s Edition, Vol. 3 — Natsuki Takaya (reread)
  9. Nailbiter, Vol. 1 — Joshua Williamson
  10. Ten Count, Vol. 2 — Rihito Takarai

YA contemporary:

  1. With the Fire on High — Elizabeth Acevedo
  2. Hope and Other Punchlines — Julie Buxbaum
  3. A Heart in a Body in the World — Deb Caletti

  5. Once and For All — Sarah Dessen
  6. How to Make Friends with the Dark — Kathleen Glasgow
  7. Broken Beautiful Hearts — Kami Garcia
  8. Let Me Hear a Rhyme — Tiffany D. Jackson
  9. If I’m Being Honest — Emily Wibberley & Austin Siegemund-Broka
  10. Heroine — Mindy McGinnis

Romance:

  1. Rebel — Beverly Jenkins
  2. The Takeover Effect — Nisha Sharma
  3. The Right Swipe — Alisha Rai
  4. Natalie Tan’s Book of Luck and Fortune — Roselle Lim

  1. Throttle — Joe Hill & Stephen King
  2. Pretty Marys All in a Row — Gwendolyn Kiste
  3. The Visible Filth — Nathan Ballingrud
  4. The Green Mile, Part 1 — Stephen King
  5. Fortune Box — Madeleine Swann
  6. Jack & Jill — Kealan Patrick Burke
  7. Mapping the Interior — Stephen Graham Jones
  8. The Girl Who Hid in the Trees — Steve Stred

It’s so awesome that SO MANY of your winter picks were 5 stars! Fingers crossed that carries over into spring, haha. I hope you pick Heroine!! I’m definitely planning to pick that one up as soon as it comes out.
