September TBR: No Theme?!

September 1, 2018

septbrsm.jpg

I know, I always have a “theme” for my TBR, but not this month! While I really wanted to join in on Kathy’s Sequel September in a big way and knock out some series, I’ve spread myself so thin with review copies that they’re almost all I can focus on this month! (That said, I’m still going to try to read at least a few sequels.)

Instead of posting a strict TBR, I’m just going to list every single book I would like to read in September, and we’ll see how many I can get through!

    1. Just like you, I have ARCs for Strange Grace, The Good Demon and Damsel. I’m currently reading The Good Demon and while I’m intrigued, I feel like the story is too strange for me ? I hope you’ll enjoy Vicious though!

    1. That’s a pretty large TBR you’ve got there! A few are on mine as well such as The Grey Bastards (of course), The Good Demon, and The Kiss Quotient (as soon as my hold is fulfilled I’m reading it!).
      Good luck!

      1. It’s way too big lol! I’ll be so shocked and ECSTATIC if I can finish everything on the list. *wistful sigh*
I can’t wait to read The Grey Bastards with the group! I’m also really hoping we both like The Good Demon and The Kiss Quotient! 🙂 <3 Happy reading!!

    1. That’s a lot! Sheesh, I can maybe get in about five reads a month?
Kill Creek is supposed to be great, I’ve been wanting it. I’m actually reading Suspended in Dusk II right now! And I have The Toy Thief and The House by the Cemetery lined up.
Of course, I would urge you more toward the horror titles, but that’s just me. 🙂

      1. Five is amazing, though! I honestly think any amount of reading is phenomenal because I know how hard it can be to find the time, energy, etc. Ugh lol!! And then don’t even get me started on slumps!
So far, I am really enjoying Kill Creek! I read the first 100 pages yesterday and then have flown through 250 pages of it today, so I’m almost done and will hopefully actually finish it before bed tonight. How are you liking Suspended in Dusk II so far? There were some super exciting authors on the list so I’m looking forward to it. 🙂 Yesss, I love horror all year round but August/September is the time every year where I start wanting to binge read nothing but scary stories and thrillers lol. It can be hard to motivate myself to pick up much of anything else when I’m craving horror!

        1. I’m enjoying it! With any anthology there’s the highs and lows, of course, but I feel it’s a pretty strong collection.
Ooh, I’ll keep an eye out for your Kill Creek review then!
And it seems to be that time of year, doesn’t it?
Anyway, I wish you the best of luck with your TBR list this month!

    1. Oh destiny :’) you knock books out pretty quickly though so I’m sure you’ll be able to read at least 8 before the end of the month!
I’m not doing a TBR this month again because it was so fun last month and I had much more freedom. U do have quite a few ARCs to get through though…

    1. Oof that’s quite the list!! Excited about reading Strange Grace and Nightingale this month. I’m trying not to think too hard about how many ARCs I need to read in the next month because i’m gonna end up panicking HARD 😀

      1. Oh my gosh, I feel you. I made this list and had to just WALK AWAY lol. I felt like I was about to panic a little. Strange Grace and Nightingale are 2 of the ones I’m most excited about too though 🙂

    1. I fell behind on my ARCs as well, so I feel you. (Also, I REALLY need to finish the book I’m reading/reviewing for The Lesbrary ASAP bc it goes online on September 9th and I’m supposed to send it a few days before that…)
I have an ARC of I Do Not Trust You as well, although I’m not sure I’ll enjoy it yet. It was offered to me and I accepted it (instead of me seeking it out/requesting), but it’s not my usual genre.
Wow, okay, that is… indeed a lot of ARCs 😀
I’m starting uni and possibly work too, so idk how much time I’ll have to read, which is why I didn’t set a TBR for this month – but I’m gonna try to at least catch up on ARCs and maybe read a couple of sequels I own!

      1. Good luck with your ARCs! I know how super stressful it is when you fall behind. 🙁 I feel that right now, too! And I feel you on I Do Not Trust You. Like you, it was offered to me instead of me requesting it, and I actually let the email sit for a couple of days while I debated because I wasn’t sure. I still feel kind of torn on it, I’m just hoping I like it enough to do the blog tour post justice…
I don’t blame you for not setting a TBR this month! A new job and uni – either one of those is stressful and busy-making on its own, but both together? Hugs to you!! I hope you’re still able to find some time for things you love, whether it’s reading or whatever else. 🙂

    1. I’ve only just started making actual monthly TBRs and this is pretty much the approach I’ll be taking: over-committing and basically creating a menu of books I can choose to read from. ? (I think I’m looking at a list of 52 books for September? ? not getting through all those…)

      1. Hahaha I LOVE it! This is the first time I had ever done it and I honestly really like how it turned out. I mean, I know it looks like this ridiculously long thing, but it’s kind of nice to look at it as “how much can I do?” instead of the way I usually look at it, which is “I have to read ALL of these!”

        1. Yes, exactly! This is only my second month trying this, and it’s really helped that I’ve been looking at it as a “read all of these that you can” list rather than a “you have to read ALL OF THESE” list. And as a mood reader I feel like it gives me more flexibility to add more books of different types to my list and less pressure to read the ones I’m not in the mood for!

    1. September is always a crazy month for review books. You have way more than I do, though? I’ll also be reading several of these, I’m really looking forward to Phoenix Unbound and Priest of Bones.

      1. It really is! I always think I’m gonna be chill by fall and then September rolls around and it’s like… OOPS… lol!
Phoenix Unbound is one of the ones I’m most excited about. I’m also super excited for Priest of Bones, but I’m craving some good urban/paranormal fantasy right now!

      1. Thank you! I’m super excited for both of those. Damsel is getting so much negative hype right now because tons of people are saying it’s very grimdark and way too violent for YA – but as someone who enjoys dark, violent stories of any age range, that just makes me want to read it even more. 😛 Beneath the Citadel, I don’t know much about, but it sounds so cool.

        1. Yeah I’ve been hearing that too but honestly, sugar coating tough subjects is never a good thing so I will have to see what I think, knowing those things 🙂

    1. I’m kind of the same with arcs. I didn’t calculate in the fact my husband now has 3 weeks of vacation and wants ALL the attention. So less time to read and a bunch of arcs is freaking out me, haha.
I am very curious to see what you will think of Vicious if you get around to it. It was just okay for me. And Oh my gosh, Beneath the Citadel *.*

      1. Bahahah oh noooo! My partner had a 3-day weekend (ending tonight/tomorrow morning) for Labor Day here, and I didn’t take it into account when I figured up my reading schedule for the weekend, so now my goal is to somehow read about 400 pages of City of Lost Souls before bed tonight and it’s already almost 5pm AND we’re having a big family dinner with my parents tonight. 😛 I’d better get to work…
I’m about 3/4 through Vicious right now and actually really enjoying it! It isn’t as good as the Shades of Magic series but I’m liking it in its own way. I think I’ll finish it some time tomorrow and review it later this week.

    1. Is this the first time we actually have an ARC in common? Because I need to read I DO NOT TRUST YOU as well. Like, ASAP, haha. [Noooo buddy-read because I’m stressing out enough as it is and I don’t want the pressure of scheduled reading SORRY. Also idk why but I never do buddy reads because I never know when I’ll pick up a book? Ugh.]

      1. Noooo, don’t say sorry! ♥ You’re 100% fine, I wasn’t going to ask because I didn’t want to add pressure on you! I’m scheduled for a blog tour post on the 10th so I actually started it night before last. I’m about 2/3 through right now and it’s alright! It’s more of an action book than mystery IMO so I don’t think it’s being marketed to its full potential. I hate the love interest a little bit but I like the main character a lot. I look forward to hearing what you think of it!

        1. I’m not that far in yet but I’m liking all the mythology! I really don’t like history, but mythology? That I do not mind one bit, haha. They only started their journey so I’m really not that far in yet. We’ll see how it goes! 😀

            1. I skimmed your review earlier and.. I’m curious to see where Ash is going to go. I don’t get why our MC is giving him occasional gooey eyes – really not that far in yet – while he lies / has lied and she knows it. Let alone be alone in a cave with the dude! I don’t even want it to turn into something romantic right now ._.

Say hello! ♥
