Stacking the Shelves — May 25th, 2019

May 25, 2019

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts, and of course ebooks!

Physical Review Copies:

  • The Girl in Red — Christina Henry
    • adult dark fantasy; a gothic dark fantasy retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, but make it feminist! I love Christina Henry. ?
  • A Reflection of Shadows — Anne Renwick
    • adult steampunk/romance; I’ve never read any steampunk romance, so when the author offered it, I thought I’d give the subgenre a whirl! I’m a little lost on how to describe it because it is part of a bigger series, but Anne assured me that it can be read on its own! ♥

Digital Review Copies:

  • Twice in a Blue Moon — Christina Lauren
    • adult romance; “second chance romance” between teen sweethearts a decade after a major betrayal between them
  • Guest — Mary Downing Hahn
    • MG horror; Mollie’s little brother is switched out for a changeling, so she goes on a mission to get him back
      • I love changeling stories and I grew up on MDH’s horror stories, so I was really excited to see this!

Kindle Purchases/Freebies:

  • Demons Strike Back — Jacey Ward — freebie
    • adult paranormal romance; Kalen, a demon underlord, needs a Valkyrie’s help, but he didn’t expect to immediately fall for the woman whose help he’s seeking
  • Immortal Hearts — Raven Moon — freebie
    • adult paranormal fantasy; the synopsis doesn’t give much to go off of besides this being a revenge story including betrayal and a family disaster
  • Seven Slightly Sadistic Stories — Jeremiah Cress — freebie
    • adult horror short stories; a collection of short snippets about serial killers
  • Lost in Me — Lexi Ryan — freebie
    • new adult romance; the MC wakes up with a case of amnesia and has no idea how she became engaged to her childhood crush, but she starts unveiling secrets and discovers her true feelings might be for someone else: an angry, tattooed bad boy rocker
  • Paramourn: Unfortunate Romances — John Edward Lawson
    • adult horror/romance short stories; a collection of short bizarro/horror/romance/erotica stories

Physical Purchases & Gifts:

  • Nothing this week!

Library & Kindle Unlimited Borrows:

  • And the Ocean Was Our Sky — Patrick Ness — physical library loan
    • YA fantasy; a Moby Dick retelling from the whales’ POV
  • 10-Minute Clutter Control — Skye Alexander — physical library loan
    • adult nonfiction; pretty self-explanatory title…

    1. Awesome haul! I’m hoping that I get approved for the Twice in a Blue Moon ARC as well. I read The Unhoneymooners as an ARC this year and really enjoyed it.

    1. I’m interested in seeing your thoughts on And the Ocean Was Our Sky! I hadn’t heard of it until just now, but it sounds intriguing.

    1. I feel like this is not a lot for you ahha!
I hope you enjoy When the ocean was our sky! I loved it, but it is pretty weird haha 🙂
