Seasonal TBR Jar — Speedy Summer!

June 24, 2019

Summer is here as of a few days ago (BLECK. Can’t it be fall already?!), and that means it’s time for another seasonal TBR jar! If you didn’t see my last post in this series, I’ll give a quick rundown:

The seasonal TBR jar is a series idea I came up with in which, every season, I make a list of books from my owned TBR that fit the “mood” of that season! Then, throughout the next three months, I will randomly pull titles from that jar to motivate me to work on my backlist.

My spring theme categories were graphic novels/manga, YA contemporary, romance, and horror novellas, and these are the titles I marked off the list:

  • Unnatural, Vol. 1 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • Moonstruck, Vol. 1 ⭐⭐⭐
  • Hope and Other Punchlines (in progress)
  • The Takeover Effect ⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • The Right Swipe ⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • Untouchable ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • A Princess in Theory (DNF, will try again later)
  • Criminal Intentions S1E1: The Cardigans ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • Fortune Box ⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • Splatterpunk Forever (DNF)

I also feel like I deserve an honorary mention for Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me, which I had an eARC of that I TRIED to read, but the ACSM file was such poor quality, you couldn’t read a single word of the text. But I tried!
My spring jar had 40 titles in total, so I’d say 11/40 (or 27.5%) isn’t too bad! As usual, I’m not aiming for 100%, it’s just fun to see how many titles I get the chance to pull out of each seasonal jar.

Now, for my summer jar:

Lately, my reading time has been a lot less than normal, between work, class, gaming, and general life-related things, so I’m going to aim for nothing but quick reads this season. It’s also been easier for me to read ebooks than physical or audiobooks lately, so I’m going to focus pretty heavily on my Kindle Unlimited TBR, too! (I’ll note those with a ? emoji!)
I’ll go with 60 titles (I know it looks like a lot, but the goal is NOT 100% completion!) and I’m using almost all the same categories as I did in spring:

    1. There are so, so many books on your list I really hope you get to! You have such a good Summer TBR planned out 🙂
I think I’m most excited about you reading Stillhouse Lake or Book Boyfriend, although I really want to read your thoughts on Twice in a Blue Moon.

    1. Gosh, that reminds me. I accidentally bought 2 copies of Ten Count Vol 5. Would you like one if I post it to you? The unread one is still wrapped in plastic. Let me know if you’re interested, and we’ll go from there. x

      1. Oh my gosh, Meeghan, I’m SO late in seeing this comment but you are so sweet ♥♥♥ I feel like I’ve probably missed the window on this one but I want to squeeze you for even offering!!

        1. Uhh, I still have it wrapped in plastic on my shelf!! I’m happy to send it your way if you’re still keen?? You’re the only other person I know who reads them! ?

    1. I think 27,5% is quite an accomplishment! I really like this idea of a seasonal TBR without a lot of pressure, just seeing how far you can get. Might just do one myself! Pulling from a jar is always tricky for me though, since I’m such a mood reader it usually doesn’t work out if I let faith decide. Do you use different jars for the different categories or just one big one? Also how are you enjoying Giant Days? I’ve been eyeing that series since forever! Good luck on your summer tbr jar!

    1. I used your TBR jar idea to come up with my summer TBR this year (although I made a list of books that interested me and used a random # generator to pick them out). Although I have a lot of pre-orders for the fall that I plan to read, I love the idea of letting fate decide a book or two. I think I’m going to try to squeeze in at least a few random books every season now.
Hope fate picks some good books for you!

    1. I hope you can get to a lot of them! And enjoy them of course!

    1. This is such a cool idea, I used to read a lot of manga when I was younger, I’m kinda sad I don’t read it much anymore. I think I’m going to have to remedy that!
I might have to do a winter tbr for when the nights start drawing in and work quietens down. xo

    1. I’d love to see you read Stillhouse Lake! Rachel Caine’s paranormal YA books are my absolute favourite so I’m really interested to see how she handles an adult thriller ❤️

    1. Can you recommend some recent graphic novels you’ve read that you loved? I love comics but sometimes am really overwhelmed by the amount there is to non-superhero non-horror stuff (which is mostly what I read). I want to branch out but don’t know where to start! Help a girl out, hahah.

    1. This is a cool idea! Can’t say I’ve got any of those on my list but good luck…or happy reading…good focus? Lol.

Say hello! ♥
