T10T: Favorite Bookish Quotes

March 6, 2018

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly blog meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s prompt was to pick my top ten favorite bookish quotes! I know I usually put a spin on the topic, but I really liked this one as-is. 🙂

These are in no specific order, except the last one, which is my favorite. <3

10. “Do you think it was destiny that brought us together?” He squinted and, after a thoughtful moment, shook his head. “No. I’m pretty sure it was Cinder.” Cress
This is probably the least serious of my favorite quotes, but it’s so cute and is a fantastic example of what I love the silly banter in this series.

9. “Let her be strong. Let her be sly. And let her be ugly.” And I Darken
What an incredible introduction to Lada’s character, and what a poignant commentary on how much easier her life could be if she grew up without beauty.

8. “Do you ever listen to yourself? ‘This is crazy, that is crazy,’ everything is crazy to you. By whose measure?”Her Body and Other Parties
What a fiercely feminist little collection this one is, and while it runs over with relevant and incredible quotes, this might be my favorite, as it serves a reminder that we are within our rights to feel the things we feel, and nobody deserves to shame us for them.

7. “I am frequently underestimated. I think it’s because I’m short.”Illuminae
I know I say this all the time, but I’m telling you guys… if Kady Grant, Blue Sargent, and myself ever became a girl gang trio, the world wouldn’t know what to do with us and our angry, short selves.

6. “When a woman risks her place, her very life to speak a truth the world despises? Believe her. Always.” — Blood Water Paint
I only just finished this book a few days ago, but it already has so many quotes that will stick in my head for a long time, and this was probably my favorite of them. <3 I think it speaks for itself.

5. Now that he stood directly beside Adam, not looking at him, Adam could see that he was a little out of breath. Ronan, behind him, was as well. They had run. For him. Blue Lily, Lily Blue
There are countless incredible quotes in this series, no doubt (just ask the multiple packs of page tabs I used on each book), but this is one of my favorites: the moment when Adam realizes just how determined Gansey and Ronan are to support and defend him. <3

4. “My friend through many dangers. My lover who had healed my broken and weary soul. My mate who had waited for me against all hope, despite all odds.” A Court of Mist and Fury
Of course this quote is precious because of what it signifies and the scene that it falls within, but most of all, I adore the fact that it is the exact moment when it fully sinks in for Feyre, how much Rhysand has loved her and supported her from the start.

3. “Dying? Not at all,” said Sirius. “Quicker and easier than falling asleep.” Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Sirius couldn’t have predicted what would happen, but in that moment, all that mattered was comforting the poor child who’d come so far and fought so hard, only to look death right in the eye, and there’s something about this quote that always makes me feel so sweet and mournful.

2. “Fire is catching! And if we burn, you burn with us!” Mockingjay
If there’s ever been a quote that made me want to go set the system on fire and fix everything that’s wrong in society today, this one is it. I get chills every time.

1. “We accept the love we think we deserve.” — The Perks of Being a Wallflower
If I ever had to narrow it down to just one favorite, this one would be it. This quote got me through some really tough times in my life, and was the inspiration I needed to end more than one bad situation I’d found myself in.

What’s your favorite bookish quote? Let me know in the comments!

Girl, you won’t regret it. It’s so good. I sat down to review it last night and had to stop because I just couldn’t stop crying.

I never keep track that well of quotes. There are always a few that I like in almost each book. The Raven Cycle had many greats ones I agree. And us short people are fierce. 😉

I feel like I could’ve honestly done the whole list with TRC quotes! ? in fact, there’s a blog post idea… ??

We accept the love we think we deserve, but tbh I love all the quotes from The Perks of Being a Wallflower. It’s so well written with some real truths in it <3

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries March 7, 2018 at 12:56 pm

Yes, it’s so good! Totally a classic in my eyes. I’m really interested to see what his second book is like next year.

        • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries March 8, 2018 at 2:12 am

Ahahaha yeah, it’ll be his second release ever! It’s not a sequel to Perks, though, so I hope I didn’t get your hopes up in the wrong way… *hides in corner* lol! He’s releasing an adult thriller novel next year.

          • Dorine March 8, 2018 at 3:25 am

Yes I read the news last night ? Don’t know how I feel yet, but hey it’s still amazing for him that he finally brings out another book!

I love that Illuminae quote! And the quote from Harry Potter is one of my favorites, as well. Makes me so sad, but also reinforces my love of Sirius, cause you’re right. He just wanted to comfort Harry in that moment so much.
    My TTT.

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries March 8, 2018 at 1:48 am

Thank you, Allyson! Yesss, exactly. I know Sirius wasn’t perfect, but that quote always reminds me of how sweet he could be and how much he loved Harry. <3

  • Reply Flavia March 6, 2018 at 10:41 am

Love these! And we picked some of the same books, if not the same quotes 😛 My post goes up soon!

  • Reply Cholla March 6, 2018 at 10:45 am

Thank you! <3 It's always nice to meet someone who shares my love for that HP quote in particular, since it's not one I hear talked about as often!

  • Reply everythingalyce March 6, 2018 at 11:36 am

I chose a quote from The Perks of Being a Wallflower for my list, but I’d actually forgotten about the one you picked. If I’d remembered it, I definitely would have chosen that instead!

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries March 8, 2018 at 1:51 am

Ooooh, I love Perks quotes in general so I’ve definitely gotta go see which one you picked, Alyce!

  • Reply Kristen March 6, 2018 at 7:04 pm

I love that you shared the context and/or why you liked each of the quotes you chose. I haven’t read any of these books (I’m one of the few book bloggers who hasn’t read Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, etc.), so sharing some insight into the stories was helpful!
    P.S. I’m really short too. (5’1″)

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries March 8, 2018 at 1:54 am

Thank you, Kristen! 😀 I didn’t wanna just copy and paste the quotes and leave them. I’m too much of a chatterbox for that, lol!

That one from Perks really is a favorite of mine. I also love anything from acotar but that is kind of a given since the trilogy is peppered with quotes for days ?

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries March 8, 2018 at 9:11 pm

OMG, right? I don’t care what anyone says about SJM, well… ever, honestly, but ESPECIALLY when I think about how incredible some of the quotes she creates are <3

      • Reply tornpagesandroses March 9, 2018 at 12:15 am

Yes! She is a great writer no matter what people’s opinions are. Maybe her story is the one they can’t agree with but her writing is good.

  • Reply Kaila March 8, 2018 at 12:08 am

The Blood Water Paint quote gives me *chills* – I need to look into that book immediately. Wonderful list! <3

The Perks made me cry quite badly. It stands as one of my most emotional reads. Blood Water Paints sounds good! I didn’t know there was a book about Artemisia

Perks crushes me every time, so I feel you! It’s so good, though. And Blood Water Paint was truly incredible – I cannot recommend it highly enough.
