The (Belated) Anti-Valentine's Day Tag

February 21, 2019

It’s time for another round of Tag Thursday! I know V-Day was a week ago, but I didn’t want to sit on this tag until next February, so I decided to do a belated post. Thank you to Sam for tagging me! ♥

  • Link back to the blog that tagged you!
  • Answer the 10 anti-Valentine’s Day questions provided.
  • Come up with your own 10 anti-Valentine’s questions for blogs you tag.
  • Tag ten other bloggers to do the tag!

40522978A romance you thought you’d hate, but turned out to love:

I don’t think I’ve expected to hate any and then loved them, but one I didn’t think I’d enjoy much (based off of the cover and title, I’m ashamed to say) was Midwinter Mail-Order Bride, which I freaking adored.

A heroine you wish would catch on fire and jump off the face of the earth:

I had to think really hard about this, because usually when it comes to romance couples, if there’s a member of the romance I want to jump off the face of the earth, it’s some cishet guy who’s being super cringe-y and gross, y’know? But then I remembered freaking Jessica James from Truth or Beard and her awful, weird little jokes and her painfully cringeworthy inner monologues. I enjoyed the book itself, but she was so awful that it brought my rating down from 4.5 stars to 3.

Name a world that you wouldn’t mind settling down in:

Specifically a romance world? This is tough… most of the romances I read are set in our world! I mean, can I count the ACOTAR series? If so, I’d love to live in Velaris. ?

What trope do you think is entirely overdone?

I guess the “miscommunication” trope? I know it’s an easy way to add drama and angst to a story, but sometimes, I just get so tired of it. I’d rather see the couple be separated by outside circumstances, not their own stubbornness and/or idiocy. ?

A ship you always wanted to join but haven’t for fear of heartbreak:

I thought I’d be able to come up with an answer easily for this one until I realized I am a complete glutton for misery and have never really stayed away from a ship just because of the heartbreak.

Name a character that stays getting between your ship, but you stan their existence:

I hate shipwreckers. ? Unless said shipwrecker is the second, swoonier, nicer, all-around better dude in the love triangle. Y’all know what I’m talkin’ about.

40233866A romance you want to shout from the rooftops and have everyone read (including Grandma Ethel):

A Girl Like Her by Talia Hibbert! I’m never gonna stop screaming about this amazing romance with its incredible diverse characters and super sweet, hilarious, nerdy dialogues and absolutely precious heroine. ♥ Ruth Kabbah 4evr.

What is a character trait you love in stories?

I love when there’s any sort of super big, scary, burly character who seems really grouchy or stoic but ends up being a precious, melt-y, cuddly teddy bear inside. Bonus points if they go into a state of panic any time they think anything at all is wrong with their love interest.

Name a type of resolution you are tired of seeing:

Okay, to be fair, I don’t see this often, but it sends me into a whirlwind of rage every freaking time I do: any time a relationship is furthered in an unlikely way (i.e., they weren’t going to stay together but now they are) by pregnancy. I don’t mind when a sweet, well-done romance ends in pregnancy — it’s not my favorite, but it doesn’t bother me — but I fly into a fit of rage whenever a guy impregnates a woman to try and control her or force her to stay with him, or whenever a toxic relationship ends in pregnancy and the characters decide that now they have to stay together, etc. I mean, you should not be bringing a human life into the world just to control your significant other?!?!?! THIS SHOULD BE OBVIOUS. *screams forever*
Sorry for the rant… *wanders off, grumbling about Alexa Riley*

Your ultimate ship that you would tell the gods about:

Feyre and Rhysand from the ACOTAR series. Sorry, I am honestly Feysand trash for life and I can’t seem to get away from it. LOOK AT THEM. I love them.

    1. I hate the miscommunication thing, too! Or when a character TRIES to explain something important and is all “This is important. I must tell you,” and the other character decides to be dramatic and refuses to listen and then acts offended they weren’t told.

    1. Really enjoyed your answers, many of them we thought alike.
Miscommunication is SO overdone and specially toxic for youngsters.. i mean come on, can we not? Can we promote actually good, comunicatung couples instead?

    1. YAY! I’m so glad you did the tag Destiny as I LOVED your answers! Pregnancy resolutions are literally the worst and I honestly do not like them at all *grumbles about how the erotica genre uses it almost every other book*

    1. loved your answers to this, destiny! the pregnancy one is a Hard Yikes. i hate when those sorts of things are romanticised and it boggles my mind that it can still happen in 2019 freaking 2019.
but yes, yes, and YES to your fave character trait. give me all of the big stoic grumpy love interests who are actually Soft Boy teddy bears ??

      1. Thank you! I also can’t believe the pregnancy thing is still being romanticized. I read it in a book just a couple of months ago and ranted about it in my Goodreads review and some random person commented to chew me out because, according to them, “it’s natural human behavior”. ? Sure, okay…
Omg yes to all the grumpy teddy bears ???

    1. OH MY GOSH DESTINY TYSMMM FOR TAGGING ME, i cannot wait to do this because romance is one of my absolute favorites and I cannot physically stop myself from reading them.
+ I so much agree with the miscommunication trope!!!!!!! I cannot handle it a single second longer, it’s so much better when an outside influence gets between them. why can we not have a unified **team** it’s so much more beautiful
++i hate the “pregnancy ending” or “pregnancy to further the relationship” trope with my entire being. babies and parents are adorable, but not as a means to force the parents together????????? i do not understand at all why an author would think this was a nice thing. One of my absolute favorite books has this ending and it’s so unnecessary, but i loved the rest of the book so I made up my own ending XD

Say hello! ♥
