The Christmas Tag

December 15, 2017

I wasn’t tagged in this one, but when has that ever stopped me? I grabbed this tag from the lovely Book Dutchesses!

What is your favorite Christmas movie?

Elf, with Will Ferrell, HANDS DOWN. I watch it every single holiday season, usually several times, and it has never gotten old.

What is your favorite Christmas song?

I don’t like the classics very much, unless they’ve been covered by a group I’m fond of (i.e., Pentatonix’s rendition of “Mary, Did You Know?”), and I positively hate most of the 80s & 90s Christmas hits. That said, I like a handful of more recently written Christmas songs, and my favorites are “I Hear the Bells” by Mike Doughty, and “Ho, Ho, Hopefully” by The Maine.

Do you open presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?

Christmas Eve. When I was a kid, my parents and I would do gifts on Christmas Eve, and then go to my grandparents’ house for Christmas day. We stay home now, but it hasn’t stopped up from keeping the Christmas Eve tradition alive. We usually have a big spaghetti dinner and then rip into the gifts and watch a movie (typically, Elf, lmao).

What is your favorite Christmas scent?

This is such a fun question because it honestly stumped me for a second! I’m not big on strong tree-ish smells like balsam, fir, pine, etc… but I love cinnamon-y smells and Bath & Body Works’ “frosted cranberry”.

What tops your tree?

We actually don’t have a tree topper! We don’t have ANY ornaments on the tree this year because my kiddo would yank them down, but even when we do have ornaments, we never use toppers.

Is your tree fake or real?

Fake, always. My grandma got real trees every year during my childhood, and I HATED how much they shed needles, plus they made me itchy (I’m sure it was mental, but still).

Have you ever gone Christmas caroling?

Heavens, no. Nobody wants to hear me sing, trust me.

White or colored lights?

Colored! There’s something so cozy and fun about sitting in a dark room with only the glow of colorful Christmas lights. <3

Eggnog or hot chocolate?

Definitely hot chocolate. I’m not an eggnog fan, but if this tells you how much I love hot chocolate during the cold months, I bought a freakin’ 30-pack of instant cocoa mix last week.

Are you a ‘Buddy the Elf’ or an ‘Ebenezer Scrooge’?

Definitely Buddy! Christmas is tied with Halloween for my favorite time of year, and I get so excited over the decorations, picking gifts for my loved ones, wrapping them, and spending time with family.

When do you put up your tree/decorations?

Usually, our tradition is to put everything up the day after Thanksgiving, but I was a little late this year and put everything up a little over a week ago.

If you could travel anywhere for the holiday season, where would it be?

Honestly, I’d stay right here. I love spending the holidays at home with my loved ones more than anything, plus people are wild around the end of the year.

Do you make New Years’ resolutions?

Sort of? I never make NYRs that are like the cliche “lose weight this year” or “read 100 pages a day” or whatever – I just try to use the beginning of the year to remind myself to forgive the mistakes of the passing year, love on myself and my loved ones a little extra, and be a little kinder and a little more patient in the coming year.

I’m not going to tag anyone specifically; instead, I’m going to invite any of my followers who celebrate Christmas to grab this tag! If you fill it out, feel free to ping back to me or comment below so I can read your answers – and if you celebrate a different winter holiday and do a tag for that holiday, I’ve love to learn more about your traditions, too! <3
