The Ultimate Book Tag

February 8, 2018

Much thanks to my sweet friend Sarah for tagging me in this one!

1. Do you get sick while reading in the car?

Nope! Not even a little bit. The worst that happens is that, if I read for too long without a break, my neck will hurt really badly from tilting my head down too much. ?

2. Which author’s writing style is completely unique to you and why?

Definitely Maggie Stiefvater’s. I actually was telling my fiance recently that I feel like her writing is so specific and unique to her, that if someone handed me a random piece of paper of her writing, without any way of showing that it was her, I would be able to figure it out, haha!

3. Harry Potter Series or the Twilight Saga? Give 3 points to defend your answer.

HP! 1. It has a much more well-developed world. 2. RPattz got to play an actually likable character in HP. 3. HP doesn’t involve that offensive bleach job they put on Peter Facinelli’s head.

4. Do you carry a book bag? If so, what is in it (besides books…)?

I couldn’t tell you the last time I carried a bookbag.

5. Do you smell your books?

Not usually, no. I think I only smell them when I crack open a new one and the “new book” smell is so strong it reaches up and smacks me in the face.

6. Books with or without little illustrations?

With! Give me ALL the illustrations~!

7. What book did you love while reading but discovered later it wasn’t quality writing?

Sharing Sam by Katherine Applegate. You can see my reread review here – I was pretty disappointed in how poorly it held up.

8. Do you have any funny stories involving books from your childhood? Please share!

Sadly, I really can’t think of any. Well, unless you count the time I got drunk and started loudly demanding that my fiance “READ ME A STORY!” before grabbing Bunnicula off of the shelf and forcing him to read it to me. ?

9. What is the thinnest book on your shelf?

I think that would be The Grownup by Gillian Flynn. It’s probably 1/3 of an inch thick.

10. What is the thickest book on your shelf?

I’m too lazy to go measure them, but I’d say it’s either The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson, or Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.

11. Do you write as well as read? Do you see yourself in the future as being an author?

Nope! I thought about going into writing when I was younger, but I have no interest nowadays.

12. When did you get into reading?

There’s honestly never been a time when I wasn’t a reader – even as a toddler, I was reading my little books to my stuffed animals and pets.

13. What is your favorite classic book?

I don’t have a favorite classic for a full book, but if short stories count, I’d say The Tell-tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe.

14. In school what was your best subject?

English & Literature. 😛

15. If you were given a book as a present that you had read before and hated…what would you do?

Thank the person, pretend to be super excited, and then unhaul the book on someone who does like it as quickly and stealthily as possible.

16. What is a lesser known series that you know of that is similar to Harry Potter or the Hunger Games?

What an oddly specific question.

17. What is a bad habit you always do (besides rambling) while filming?

I’m not a vlogger/booktuber, but when I do unboxings on IG, I have a bad habit of getting distracted in mid-sentence and going quiet. ?

18. What is your favorite word?

“Macabre”.

19. Are you a nerd, dork, or dweeb? Or all of the above?

Probably a mix of all three.

20. Vampires or Fairies? Why?

Fairies, for sure. Vampires are only cool if they’re written well, but fair folk are basically always cool.

21. Shapeshifters or Angels? Why?

Errr, can I pick fallen angels? Those can come with some dope back stories. Or maybe weeping angels…?

Series5weepingangels

22. Spirits or Werewolves? Why?

Totally spirits! I’ve never been a huge fan of werewolves – I mean, they’re fine, but there’s nothing like a good ghost story.

23. Zombies or Vampires?

Vampires. I feel like zombie stories got so overdone for a while there, that I have a hard time finding many unique ones now.

24. Love Triangle or Forbidden Love?

Forbidden, for sure. I love me some angsty romance.

25. AND FINALLY: Full on romance books or action-packed with a few love scenes mixed in?

I don’t mind heavy romance, but I prefer the latter, mainly because I am obsessed with slow burn romances. <3

Macabre is an amazing (and very underutilized) word!

Haha yes, agreed! I’m glad someone else appreciates it!

      • Reply abyssallibrarian February 12, 2018 at 4:50 pm

Well, I’ve always been obsessed with The Addams Family, so I’m sure that’s a factor, lol!

Bahaha, I love it! I was raised on The Addams Family. Family goals forever!

          • abyssallibrarian February 12, 2018 at 5:36 pm

Totally! By far one of the most functional families on TV, in their own weird way.

    I liked your post 🙂
Sometimes we love books and then when we reread them, they’re not anywhere near as good as we thought the first time. It’s always such a disappointment to me…
That gif of Matilda is the cutest. I love Matilda! My husband is a meanie and vetoed the name for a future daughter though.

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries February 12, 2018 at 4:46 pm

      Thank you!
Yes, exactly! It’s so disappointing. Sometimes I actually won’t reread a book just because I’m afraid of the potential for letdown.
      Awww, boooo! She’s precious.

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries February 12, 2018 at 4:46 pm

LMAO. The universe is trying to tell you something… *cackling*

      • Reply Kathy @ Books & Munches February 13, 2018 at 2:29 am

        That you’re a creepy weeping angel? 😀

        • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries February 14, 2018 at 1:54 pm

… yes. Something like that. *static-y sounds in distance*

          • Kathy @ Books & Munches February 14, 2018 at 2:10 pm

No. Nononono. I am home alone all night and you will NOT freak me out!

          • Destiny @ Howling Libraries February 14, 2018 at 2:17 pm

Bahahaha I’m sorry! I take it back! No static!

          • Kathy @ Books & Munches February 14, 2018 at 2:19 pm

            The damage is done!?

          • Destiny @ Howling Libraries February 14, 2018 at 2:26 pm

I’m sending you all the happy/not-scared vibes I can muster!

          • Kathy @ Books & Munches February 15, 2018 at 2:14 am

I ended up falling asleep only when the boyfriend got home at 2am and.. basically slept for only 4 hours..
Not sure to blame you or simply the fact that I can’t sleep without the bf being home.. :’)

          • Destiny @ Howling Libraries February 15, 2018 at 3:22 am

It’s definitely the bf thing. yep. Not my fault. Nooooope I’m innocent~ *whistling cheerfully*

          • Kathy @ Books & Munches February 15, 2018 at 3:28 am

This made me think, though! The moment I decide to read King’s creepy books, it is going to be SO PERFECT. You’ll be awake to keep me company on my sleepless nights and when you’re asleep, Alex will be awake! Like; THIS IS PERFECT. [Now to find the courage to get totally creeped out.. I’m so not looking forward to my own ApTHRILL.. Not when it comes to thàt.]

          • Destiny @ Howling Libraries February 15, 2018 at 12:39 pm

Bahahah yes! Perfect! I, for one, am excited about ApTHRILL. (Also, I love the name ?)

          • Kathy @ Books & Munches February 16, 2018 at 2:55 am

I think that was one I have the boyfriend to thank for, HAHA. :’) He was helping me brainstorm when I was setting up my monthly challenges. 😛

  • Reply RedRocketPanda February 8, 2018 at 1:42 pm

I snorted so loud in response to your comment about Peter Facinelli.

  • Reply Sarah February 8, 2018 at 2:07 pm
