Ultimate Harry Potter Tag

October 12, 2017

What do you do when it reaches lunch time and you realize – much to your own shock and horror – that you didn’t schedule a blog post for today? Why, you do a tag, of course!

I was tagged by Holly over at Nut Free Nerd to do this super fun tag, so let’s jump right in! Thanks, Holly!

1. Favorite book?

This one is tough, but I’ve gotta go with Prisoner of Azkaban. I loved our introduction to Sirius Black.

2. Last favorite book?

Easy: Goblet of Fire! I wasn’t enamored by the whole Triwizard Tournament, or the ways everyone treated poor Harry over the whole ordeal.

3. Favorite movie?

This one’s also going to be Prisoner of Azkaban. I remember when my parents bought me the DVD right after it came out, and I watched it every single night for months on end. It’s got so many great moments (and quotes).

4. Least favorite movie?

Again, Goblet of Fire. Same reasons. Though, I actually was very bored by GoF as a kid, but as an adult, it’s only barely my least favorite – mainly because I grew to feel so sorry for Cedric and his family.

5. Favorite quote?

“Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love.”

6. Favorite Weasley?

Devastatingly enough, my favorite Weasley since the very first book has always been Fred. *sobbing in corner*

7. Favorite female character?

Luna Lovegood! She’s so delightfully bizarre, and kind, and free-spirited. Evanna Lynch played her perfectly in the films, too – it’s easily one of my favorite casting decisions for any book-to-screen adaptation in history.

8. Favorite villain?

Can I count the entire Malfoy family as one? Lucius is so awful, but Jason Isaacs made me love him so much in the films. By the end of the series, I just felt sorry for him. Narcissus is an amazing woman and mother who just got wrapped up in the wrong business, and I will stand by this belief forever, dammit. And Draco… god, he was such a little shit for so long, but I remember being so devastated for him by the time I reached the end of Half-Blood Prince. By the end of the series, I felt like he had been so terribly wronged, and I just wanted to hug him.

9. Favorite male character?

This one is really tough, and I’m going to probably get crucified for this… but I’m going to say Severus Snape. I don’t fall into the “hero” or “villain” camp with him, because in my opinion, he’s just an incredibly morally grey character, but I enjoy the way he was written so much. I personally feel that he’s one of the most complex characters in the series. I’ll never discount the mistakes that he made, but in no other series must a character be “wholesome” for people to like them, so I see no reason why the Harry Potter universe should differ.

10. Favorite professor?

See previous answer. To pick a backup, though, I’ll go with Remus Lupin, who ripped me to utter shreds when he passed. I never felt like Lupin thought Harry “owed” him anything or “belonged” to him (due to the Marauders and all); I genuinely felt like Lupin just wanted to be there for Harry and to help guide him.

11. Wash Snape’s hair, or spend a day listening to Lockhart rant about himself?

Snape, easy.

12. Duel an elated Bellatrix, or an angry Molly?

Molly. Even though Molly is a force to be reckoned with when she’s angry, I trust that I’d have to really fuck up terribly for her to fight dirty. Bellatrix, on the other hand, scares the living hell out of me!

13. Travel to Hogwarts via Hogwarts Express or a flying car?

Hogwarts Express! Bring that trolley of treats over here, please.

14. Kiss Voldemort, or give Umbridge a bubble bath?

Voldemort. At least it would be over fast.

15. Ride a hippogriff, or ride a firebolt?

Hippogriff! I would love to have a Buckbeak of my very own. <3

16. Is there a character you felt differently about in the movies versus the books?

Sirius Black. I enjoyed him more in the films than the books, to be honest, and I think that’s because Gary Oldman just played him so brilliantly that I was able to look past the issues that plagued me regarding his character in the books.

17. Is there a movie you preferred over its book?

Don’t hate me, guys, but I may have to go with Deathly Hallows: Part 1 for this, because I’m such a diehard Harry/Hermione shipper, and watching the two of them interact alone cemented every belief I ever had that they could have been so happy together. That dancing scene to the Nick Cave song? Kills me. It might sound ridiculous, but it literally brings tears to my eyes because I was so devastated that they weren’t end goals.

18. Richard Harris or Michael Gambon as Dumbledore?

I feel like the only person in the world who loves the books and still prefers Gambon. I know a lot of people don’t think he fits the image of Dumbledore that the books present, and I can see where they’re coming from, 100%! But… I’m in a small minority group that believes Dumbledore wasn’t very much of a hero at the end of the day, and Harris’ portrayal of him would never have fit the Dumbledore in books 4-7, IMO.

19. Your top thing (person or event) which wasn’t included in the movie that annoyed you the most?

Freakin’ Peeves, man. I was (and still am) so mad about his entire existence being left out.

20. If you could remake any of the Potter movies, which would it be?

I’d say GoF, but honestly, I don’t think I’d change any of them.

21. Which house was your first gut feeling you’d be a part of?

Gryffindor, from the very moment we met the sorting hat. Every quiz I’ve ever taken has placed me in Gryffindor and I have spent every moment of my life since becoming part of this fandom knowing in my soul that the sorting hat would barely touch my damn head before yelling, “GRYFFINDOOOOOR!”

22. Which house were you actually sorted into on Pottermore?

See above answer~

23. Which class would be your favorite?

Care of Magical Creatures. Especially if Hagrid teaches it to me!

24. Which spell do you think would be most useful to learn?

Definitely accio. I lose things constantly.

25. Which character do you think you’d instantly become best friends with?

Hermione and I would probably get along fairly well, though we might butt heads a bit. I think Nevilla and I would hit it off well, though – or Luna and I, because we both tend to believe in a whole lot of shit that people look at us funny for.

26. If you could own one of the three Hallows, which would it be?

The cloak of invisibility. I’m a terrible person and I’d probably use it to rob a bank, but still.

27. Is there any aspect of the books you’d want to change?

Harry and Ginny’s relationship, hands down. I didn’t like Ginny’s character much to begin with, but I genuinely felt like their relationship was so forced. It felt to me like, halfway through the series, JKR decided Harry just had to be paired off with someone, so she threw in a tiiiiny bit of tension, and then near the end, BAM, they’re in love? It didn’t work for me and I don’t think it ever will.

28. Favorite marauder?

Remus Lupin.

29. If you could bring one character back to life, which would it be?

Part of me wants to say Remus, so little Teddy could grow up with at least one of his parents. Part of me wants to say Fred, because I loved him so much and I can’t imagine poor George spending the rest of his life seeing his worst nightmare every time he looks in the mirror. (You guys, I’m getting choked up typing this. WHAT IS LIFE)

30. Hallows or horcruxes?

Hallows. I’d like to keep my soul in one piece.

    1. I’M SCREAMING AT THE SNAPE THING. S C R E A M I N G. WHY HOW WHAT I CAN’T EVEN PROCESS THIS

    1. Destiny, I love this post! I totally agree that the movies are lesser for ROBBING us of Peeves and all his pranks. Also you raise such an interesting argument about the Dumbledore actor debate. I was in the camp for Harris all the way, but you’re right he’s so spot on perfect in the first two films that it would be hard to envision him in the role he plays in the concluding films. Very curious indeed…

Say hello! ♥
