Weekly Check-in: re-reading a childhood fave

weekly check-in

It’s time for a weekly check-in!

life update

It’s been a really good week for the most part! Yesterday was a bit up and down (a fox got into the yard that we share with my parents – they live next-door – and got one of my mom’s turkeys, so we were all in a bit of a panic, fox-proofing nighttime setups for my ducks and her remaining turkeys yesterday), but otherwise, it was a really relaxing week. We put up the backyard above-ground pool and played in it, went for some nice walks, and I did a little online clothing shopping! It’s always a little nerve-wracking to order clothes online from a store you’ve never shopped at before, so cross your fingers for me 😅

just finishedAll I have to say is that Hidden Pictures winning the Goodreads horror award for 2022 might be one of the most questionable, disappointing GRCA winners I’ve ever seen. 🙃

I don’t know what surprises me more: the fact that I read my entire May TBR, the fact that I still have “6 or less” current reads, or the fact that I’m re-reading Eragon as a buddy read right now. 😂 This is my first time in YEARS reading it, but I must have read this book 20 or 30 times as a kid!

📚 current reads 📚

and everything else Isaac was in a fantasy movie mood for a couple of days this week, so I watched Warcraft twice and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves 4 or 5 times (I lost count, but honestly I adore this movie and have no complaints – it’s totally a new comfort film for me!). Chris Pine is comedic gold in this movie and I honestly don’t understand why it’s getting so much hate right now? 😅

Heads up: you can always friend me on Letterboxd if you wanna see my movie mini reviews!

What are you reading right now, or what did you recently finish? Is anything exciting happening in your life? Let me know in the comments!

    1. I too wasn’t too impressed by Sacred Lamb. I looked at the spoilers for Hidden Pictures and went “nope”. The new DnD movie is EXCELLENT!!! So so good!

    1. After reading Hidden Pictures, I wondered the exact same thing. I’m very confused about it myself. Also, I really want to watch the new DnD movie. It looks fun.

      1. Right?? Like how did it win?! lol oh well. I guess the GRCA is just a popularity contest at the end of the day anyways. The DnD movie was so cute, I hope you like it!

    1. We watched the DND movie this week too, and I really enjoyed it. I loved having a seemingly light-hearted fantasy movie to watch — I’m so tired of everything being WORLD ENDING or HORRIBLE AND VIOLENT.

I never read Eragon as a kid, is it worth trying as an adult??

      1. Same! I mean, I read and watch a lot of horror, so I usually don’t mind, but it was so nice and refreshing to watch something so fun and silly!

Eh… honestly, I think if you don’t have the nostalgia factor going, probably not. I ended up DNFing my re-read because I just wasn’t feeling it. The author wrote it when he was a teenager and, as an adult going back and re-reading it, it definitely shows. 😅

    1. My husband watched the new D&D movie. I was in the room, but not fully paying attention lol He loved it. Looks like I need to actually watch it!

    1. ERAGON was a childhood favourite of mine as well! I still have all four books on my shelf (they look so nice in hardcover jewel tones :P) but I wonder how well they hold up on reread 🤔

      1. I sadly ended up DNFing my re-read because I just couldn’t get into it! I’m not sure I’ll ever get around to finishing the series. This is two times in a row that I’ve attempted re-reading the first book in recent years and not enjoyed it. 😭

Say hello! ♥
