Weekly Check-in: little life updates & a very sad DNF

weekly check-in

It’s time for a weekly check-in!

life update

TW: medical stuff (nothing too negative!)

It was a pretty good week, though stressful at times! I had a doctor’s appointment last week (as some of you know, I’ve been having some chronic illness flare-ups and needed some labwork re-checks) and got mostly good news, though my thyroid levels were WAY off when they were fine just a few months ago, so that was really worrisome. Thankfully though, I got a thyroid ultrasound last week that went very smoothly and the results from that were fine! I’m hopefully getting tested for Hashimoto’s in a few weeks, because my doctor and I are both a little baffled by how much my levels changed in a short time, so I’m crossing my fingers to get some answers soon. With the medical stuff going on, I focused on a LOT of self-care last week and it was lovely to just spend so much time relaxing!

just finished

I read a LOT of graphic novels and manga over the past week! Unfortunately, I also had a few DNFs including one book that I REALLY thought I would love, but alas. Life is too short to read books we don’t enjoy, even if they’re super anticipated new releases!

Like I mentioned in last week’s post, for now, I’m only going to list my top 3 “priority reads” each week instead of my whole current-reads shelf. These 3 below are all buddy reads that I started yesterday! I plan on finishing 2 of them today and I’m very excited about all of them so far. I’m buddy reading How to Be a Good Creature with Malli, Only Human with Misty, and Black Tide with Ashley!

and everything else

This week has been a week for old horror re-watches and more Schitt’s Creek! We’re a few episodes into s2 right now and I haven’t enjoyed it nearly as much as s1, but I’ve been told it picks back up soon, so I’m looking forward to that. Apparently the show is leaving Netflix at the end of September, so we’re trying to make sure we watch all 6 seasons before then! The notable horror re-watches were Sleepy Hollow, which I’ve watched every year since childhood and always adore, and Hostel, which I hadn’t seen in ages and it was SO much worse than I remembered, lol. The slur usage and treatment of women… gag.

What are you reading right now, or what did you recently finish? Is anything exciting happening in your life? Let me know in the comments!

    1. I’m also struggling with A Taste of Gold and Iron😥 I set it aside with hopes to puck it up later. We shall see… Good luck with your medical appointments!

      1. Thank you, Tammy! I’m sorry you had to set A Taste of Gold and Iron aside. 🙁 I may give it another chance, but if I do, I think I’ll try the audiobook next time. Sometimes that helps me get through books that are dragging. 😂

    1. I hope your tests end up going well, Destiny! Sending positive vibes your way 💜 I’ve been really looking forward to reading A Taste of Gold and Iron since I first heard about it so I’m sad that it was a DNF for you! 🥺 But you’re right—too many books to read to spend time on one that you don’t enjoy! Also, I had no idea Schitt’s Creek was leaving Netflix! What?! I definitely have to binge the series then cos I’ve only watched until S2. I hope you have a great week ahead, friend!

      1. Thank you so much, Dini! Did you end up binge watching the rest of Schitt’s Creek? We said we were going to, but we still haven’t made it past about halfway through S2. 😂 I’m hoping another streaming service will host it ASAP because at this rate, I don’t see us finishing it before it leaves Netflix!

    1. Gasp, Schitt’s Creek is leaving Netflix?! HOW DARE IT?! So confession. I never finished the last season because I just didn’t want the show to end. But thanks for that heads up, I gotta watch it now before it goes away!

        1. My friend informed me Schitts Creek will be on Hulu so all hope is not lost LOL! At least it will still be streaming somewhere!

Say hello! ♥
