It’s time for a weekly check-in!
Hello, December! This week’s check-in is a day earlier than usual because I’m too lazy to type up my November recap post tonight (Tuesday night). Instead, you get an early check-in! 🤷♀️ It’s been a good week. We all got the flu last week, so that was rough, but we’re all feeling much better by now and it’s been a pretty chill week so far with a lot of work and reading. We do have big plans tomorrow to drive 3 hours each way to a special Christmas event my family has gone to every year since I was a toddler, so I’m looking forward to that, but also already looking forward to getting back home to my pets and cozy PJs. 😂 Do you have any family holiday traditions?
I don’t know how I managed such a great reading month, but look at this! I re-read my favorite book of all time, finished the Kingdom of the Wicked series (thanks Misty for buddy reading it with me!), and had two fantastic horror reads. I wonder if I’ll get this lucky again next week?!
- A Court of Mist and Fury // Sarah J. Maas (RE-READ) → ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Pet Sematary // Stephen King → ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Intercepts // T.J. Payne→ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Kingdom of the Feared // Kerri Maniscalco → ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
📚 current reads 📚
I’m at 7 current reads right now, but I’m planning on finishing Elfhame with Misty today! I’m also buddy reading my spouse’s favorite book with them (Shadow) and started a buddy read of This Vicious Grace with Caro. I’m feeling so lucky to have all of these exciting buddy reads going on right now! 🥳
- Nestlings // Nat Cassidy → 54%
- Nettle & Bone // T. Kingfisher → 24%
- Christmas and Other Horrors // Ellen Datlow → 8%
- The Shadow of What Was Lost // James Islington → 15%
- One in a Millennial // Kate Kennedy → 52%
- This Vicious Grace // Emily Thiede →
- How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories // Holly Black → 57%
This week’s other media interests have mostly consisted of me obsessing over my usual faves: Ice Nine Kills. Have a seasonal song:
What are you reading right now, or what did you recently finish? Is anything exciting happening in your life? Let me know in the comments!

Whimsically Meghan
December 6, 2023I read Pet Sematary for the first time this year, too! I honestly didn’t expect where the story was going to go; all I knew going in was that it was about a cat dying and coming back to life. I had NO idea how dark this book got. I really enjoyed the theme of death and if you could bring back your loved ones from the dead, would you, even if they’re not the same. Such a fascinating topic that really had me thinking, aside from being completely creeped out!
