WWW #9: January 23, 2019

January 23, 2019

WWW Wednesday is hosted by Taking On a World of Words. It’s a meme that takes place every Wednesday, where the posters discuss 3 Ws:

  1. What are you currently reading?
  2. What did you recently finish reading?
  3. What do you think you’ll read next?

This week was… I dunno. It was a weird reading week.

  1. Darkfever — 60%
  2. A Curse So Dark and Lonely — 35%
  3. The Last Olympian — 56%
  4. This Mortal Coil — 14%
  5. It Ends With Us — 35%

If We Were Villains is in the collage because I’m too lazy to remake the image, but I actually put it on my “finish-me-soon” shelf late last night. It’s really gorgeous and incredible but one of the shittiest things my seasonal depression does—every year, without fail—is put me in the sort of slumps where I can’t read anything “complicated” or overly “literary” without just getting totally exhausted. ?

So, it looks at first glance like I read a lot, when actually, I just finished up rereading HP, read a few graphic novels, a couple of children’s books, and a 96-page short story collection. I’m not sure what’s been up with me this month but I think I’ve finally accepted that this isn’t just me adjusting to a new job, it’s a full-blown slump, and honestly, it freaking sucks lol. It’s been going on since mid-December and all I want is to sit down and tear through some books!

For the love of all that is holy, I just want to finish my current reads and start at least a couple of new ARCs. PLEASE, BOOK GODS. Athena? Thoth? Anansi? Anybody?! ??

  1. Goodbye, Perfect
  2. Binti: The Complete Trilogy
  3. Fame, Fate, and the First Kiss

      1. I hope your slump ends soon! 🙁 Funny enough, if you watch the trends of my current reads, it seems like the harder I’m slumping, the more current reads I’ll have, because I keep starting new books in hopes of finding one to bust the slump. 🙁

      1. It’s been really good so far! I know a lot of people have felt pretty “meh” about it and on one hand, I can kind of see why it won’t work for some readers, but I love the setting and characters so far. 😀

      1. I feel so bad because I’m stuck at the end of chapter 6 because I’ve been sick and have barely read anything in the last few days and it’s yet ANOTHER buddy read I’m failing at this year already ????

    1. Oh boo! I hope you get rid of that slump soon! Like.. Would it help if I send the snow we’re dealing with over here to you? You’ll maybe get the urge to curl into a ball with books and hot chocolate / tea or something. I know I want to right now. [If only so I don’t have to drive through this HORRIBLE weather. Okay. No. I like the snow. I just don’t like how people suddenly forget how to drive their vehicles because of it. :’)]
In any case – I’m keeping my fingers crossed you feel better and out of the slump soon. <3

      1. Haha snow actually sounds more fun to me than our current weather! I don’t like snow much, but I guess it would be a change of pace…? :’)
Thank you. ♥♥ Crossing my fingers, too! I’m going to try to do the #24in48 readathon this weekend and see if it kicks my ass into gear.

        1. I hate snow. Hatehatehate. Usually I’m pretty okay but since I can’t risk falling, it’s the worst. :’) And for some reason people are NOT clearing their sidewalks and stuff so yeah. It’s like walking on ice.
I saw you did pretty darn well this time around so YAY YOU! Did it help you beat the slump?!

          1. Oh gosh, understandable. 😡 I hadn’t thought about that.
It did! Or it seems to have, at least. Especially considering all I want to do today is stay home and finish A Curse So Dark and Lonely (which I’ve been reading literally SO. FREAKING. SLOWLY. because I hyped myself up so hard for it that now I don’t want it to end ?).
