Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly blog meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
This week is meant to be a “best of” list, but I can’t narrow that down to 10 (and that list is coming later this week!), so I opted to update y’all on my October-December TBR 5-Star Predictions as well as making my January-March predictions so I can keep doing this every season!
Oct → Dec Predictions: UPDATE!
- Empire of Storms ✅ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- That Night ✅ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- The Bane Chronicles ⛔ did not read
- A Very Large Expanse of Sea ✅ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Song of the Dead ✅ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Godsgrave ⛔ did not read
- Girls of Paper and Fire ❌ ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- In an Absent Dream ✅ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Kingdom of Needle and Bone ✅ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Strange the Dreamer ⛔ did not read
Jan → Mar Predictions
1. Kingdom of Ash — Sarah J. Maas
why I predict a 5-star rating:
This is one of my all-time favorite series, and even though I’ve heard some mixed reviews for KoA, I have faith in Sarah’s ability to satisfy me with this ending.
2. Rolling in the Deep — Mira Grant
why I predict a 5-star rating:
I’ve yet to give less than 5 stars to anything by this author!
3. King of Scars — Leigh Bardugo
why I predict a 5-star rating:
While I have not actually 5-starred everything I’ve read by Leigh, my gut tells me this will be my favorite thing she’s written thus far!
4. The Weight of the Stars — K. Ancrum
why I predict a 5-star rating:
Kayla has such a unique and intriguing writing style that I can’t help but love, and I think this is going to be fantastic.
5. The Test — Sylvain Neuvel
why I predict a 5-star rating:
I haven’t read anything from this author yet, so I don’t know where all of this confidence is coming from, but I have such a strong feeling I’m gonna love this!
6. Darkest Hours — Mike Thorn
why I predict a 5-star rating:
Is it cheating to pick one because I’ve already read the first story in the collection and LOVED it?
7. The Nightmare Girl — Jonathan Janz
why I predict a 5-star rating:
At this point, I just predict I’ll 5-star everything he writes.
8. The Owls Have Come to Take Us Away — Ronald L. Smith
why I predict a 5-star rating:
I just really love alien-based MG horror stories—I know, kind of a specific niche to love lmao—and I have such high hopes for this one!
9. Sorcery of Thorns — Margaret Rogerson
why I predict a 5-star rating:
If I give this less than 5 perfect, flawless stars, I will cry. And maybe delete my blog forever.
10. A Heart in a Body in the World — Deb Caletti
why I predict a 5-star rating:
Just another one of those gut feelings, plus her book The Nature of Jade has been one of my favorite contemporary releases of all time since I first read it over a decade ago.

January 1, 2019Happy new year! What a great list of predictions. Not my regular genres, but it’s awesome that you know your authors so well and can predict how much you will enjoy their books. I’m going to read a book soon that I am sure will be a favorite.
Hope 2019 is filled with blessings.

January 1, 2019Happy new year, Cheryl! Thank you, and same to you—happy reading!
allthebookblognamesaretaken
January 1, 2019I struggled with this list too because there were about 30 or so that I gave 5 Stars too, and really loved. Happy New Year!

Destiny @ Howling Libraries
January 1, 2019Aw yeah, I haven’t actually done my top books of 2018 yet because I haven’t been able to narrow it down yet! This was 5-star predictions instead. 🙂 Happy New Year!
Greg
January 1, 2019Rolling in the Deep was a trip, and I’m curious about The Test since I wonder what Sylvain Neuvel’s new book will be like.
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
January 1, 2019Awesome! I’m so excited to read both of them. For some reason, the start of the new year always puts me in just a little bit of a sci-fi mood!
Hannie
January 1, 2019It’s so hard for me to come up with five star predictions because my reading tastes are so weird, but my best guess would be Scythe by Neal Shusterman and A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab will both be five star reads.
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
January 1, 2019I hope ADSOM is a 5-star read for you, that’s one of my favorite series of all time! 😀
Brooke Lorren
January 1, 2019I think you’ll five-star Kingdom of Ash.
Hmmm… I think I’ll five star The Wicked King and Empire of Storms. I’m sure I’ll have lots of 5* reads, but I don’t want to make any more predictions than that.
Happy New Year!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
January 1, 2019I hope you do 5-star TWK and EOS, I loved them both so much! ? Happy New Year, Brooke!
dbsguidetothegalaxy
January 1, 2019I’ll definitely 5-star King of Scars! I can’t wait for it. Hopefully I’ll find some 5-stars to read this year!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
January 1, 2019Yessss! I’ll be shocked at any reviews I see of it that are less than 5 stars, lol!
dbsguidetothegalaxy
January 2, 2019? I mean it’s Nikolai so he’ll be loved either way ?
theperksofbeingnourablog
January 1, 2019Sorcery of Thorns is also a book I think I’ll love! Really hope you love Kingdom of Ash when you read it, and all these other lovely books!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
January 1, 2019Thank you, love! I hope you have a ton of 5-star reads ahead of you this year! 🙂 Happy New Year!
ChrissiReads
January 1, 2019Ooh, what high expectations! I really hope that these books meet your expectations. Happy New Year!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
January 1, 2019Thank you love, I hope so, too!! Happy New Year! ♥
Jolien @ The Fictional Reader
January 1, 2019I hope these will all end up being 5-star reads for you! I really want to read A heart in a Body in the World too, and think it’ll end up being a 5-star read for me as well. I’ve only really heard one YouTuber talk about it, but she loved it so much that it convinced me.
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
January 1, 2019Thank you! Was it Chelsea you heard talk about it by any chance? I’m just curious because she’s who sold me on it and I literally had to pause her video and go order it that moment because I was so excited haha. I didn’t watch her little spoiler-y moment about the trigger warnings, though, because I didn’t want to be spoiled, so I’ve been steering clear of everyone else’s reviews until I read it.
Jolien @ The Fictional Reader
January 2, 2019Probably, I love her channel! If she gushed about it, I would’ve definitely added it to my to-read list immediately.
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
January 2, 2019Hahaha I know that feeling! She’s wonderful!!
teglasgeorgiana
January 1, 2019King of Scars will hopefully be as amazing as everyone is expecting it to be! I know the Grisha trilogy gets mixed opinions, but “Six of Crows” and “Crooked Kingdom” are fantastic. You can see how good Leigh`s writing gets over time.
Carmen`s Reading Corner
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
January 1, 2019Agreed! I enjoyed the Grisha trilogy for the most part but it definitely wasn’t as good as the SOC/CK duology was for me!
iloveheartlandx
January 1, 2019I hope all these do end up being 5 stars for you!

January 1, 2019Fun to see you were pretty spot on with your 5 star predictions!
I loved KoA, hope you’ll do too!
And King of Scars is definitely one I predict to be a 5 star read as well 🙂
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
January 1, 2019I know, I was surprised I knew myself that well! I still think, had I gotten to those 3 I didn’t read in time, they would have been 4- or 5-star reads as well! 😀 And thank you! I hope we’re right on King of Scars but I honestly would be amazed if we’re wrong!
Tiffany G.
January 1, 2019I struggled with this list because I feel like I didn’t read enough (58 books) to choose ten that were my absolute favorite of the year!
My TTT: seaofbooksandpages.wordpress.com/2019/01/01/top-ten-tuesday-best-books-i-read-in-2018/
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
January 1, 2019Aw, I think 58 books is definitely enough to choose a top 10 – way to go! 🙂 My top books list will be coming later since I decided on a totally different theme for this week’s T10T post.
Nicci @ Sunny Buzzy Books
January 1, 2019I’m excited to read KoA. I bought it back in October but haven’t been brave enough to read it yet, lol. I know it’s going to be one heck of a ride!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
January 1, 2019Haha same, same! I’ve had it since release day but can never seem to talk myself into reading it because I’m scared and I need all of my babies to be okay ?
Kyra
January 1, 2019I NEED to read the Throne of Glass series – I’ve heard SO many good things!
My TTT post!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
January 1, 2019Kyra it is SO GOOD, you gotta check it out sometime!! ♥
nikki @bookpunks
January 1, 2019Ooh, interesting that you do the five-star prediction thing. I don’t think I would ever win that lottery ha. The new five star reads almost always take me by surprise.
Happy reading!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
January 1, 2019Hahaha, oh nooooo! That’s kinda funny, though—always keeping yourself guessing. 😉 Happy New Year and happy reading to you too!
Aymee (@asphaltcowgrrl)

Mandy R
January 1, 2019I feel like you will 5 star Kingdom of Ash and King of Scars.
I’m predicting that I will 5 star The You I’ve Never Known by Ellen Hopkins, but I’m not too confident in the rest of my January TBR.
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
January 1, 2019Oh nooo, why aren’t you confident in the rest of your TBR? I really hope you get some pleasant surprises, Mandy! ♥
Mandy R
January 1, 2019It’s hard to predict sometimes if it’s really going to be 5 stars
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
January 2, 2019That’s very true!
Kay @ It's a Book Life
January 1, 2019I love seeing these prediction lists pop up on several blogs lately. I love the idea and yours was super fun to read. I may have to join the fun. You were pretty spot on with your predictions! Happy New Year!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
January 1, 2019Thank you, Kay! You should join in, it’s really neat to check back after a few months and see if you were right or not. 🙂 Happy New Year!
Alicia @ A Kernel of Nonsense
January 1, 2019I am so looking forward to Sorcery of Thorns. I don’t know how I’m going to wait so long for it. Happy New Year, Destiny!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
January 1, 2019Ugh, I wish it wasn’t so far away! I know it’s gonna be worth the wait, though. ♥ Thank you, Alicia, Happy New Year!
Aj @ Read All The Things!
January 1, 2019I hope you love them all! I’m curious about the Owl/alien book, too. I hope it’s good. Happy 2019!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
January 1, 2019Thank you! I hope so too, it sounds fun. It’s getting mixed reviews on Goodreads so far but I feel like middle grade horror ALWAYS does lol. Happy New Year!
Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
January 1, 2019I hope all of these turn out fantastic for you! I’m too scared to predict my 5 star reads, I’m always so worried I’ll hype up something too much for myself! 😀
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
January 2, 2019Thank you! Haha that’s an understandable fear, I’ve definitely been guilty of doing that with some books, especially lately! ?
Harker @ The Hermit Librarian
January 1, 2019I’m sorry, ROLLING IN THE DEEP?? 😮 Omg. Okay, that’s going on the list! I got INTO THE DROWNING DEEP for Christmas and dearie me do I love me some murdery mermaids!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
January 2, 2019Yaaaaaay! 😀 Haha it sounds like such a good series (I *think* she said there’s at least one more book coming?).
Harker @ The Hermit Librarian
January 2, 2019SEND ME YOUR MURDEROUS MERMAIDS! 😀 <3
Annemieke
January 3, 2019Yes to King of Scars <3 I was a pretty dissapointed with the ending of Neuvel's Themis Files so I am not running to get The Test anymore haha.
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
January 3, 2019Oh no! I do remember hearing a lot of people say they were unhappy with the ending for that series. 🙁
