Booktubeathon TBR & Booktuber Shout-Outs!

BOOKTUBEATHON 2018: July 30th — August 5th

Let’s talk about Booktubeathon! If you’re already familiar with it, you can skip this next little bit, but if you’re wondering “what is Booktubeathon?!” and “what challenges?!”…

Booktubeathon is an annual summer readathon! Despite the “booktube” focus, participants include booktubers, bloggers, bookstagrammers, and people who just really love reading. ♥

You can watch the official announcement video here!

Every year, there are challenges, and these are this year’s:

1. Let a coin toss decide your first read.
2. Read a book about something you want to do.
3. Read and watch a book-to-film adaptation.
4. Read a book with green on the cover.
5. Read a book while wearing the same hat the whole time.
6. Read a book with a beautiful spine.
7. Read seven books.

BOOKTUBEATHON TBR:

Luckily for me, Booktubeathon starts a few days after my summer classes finish, which means I get to celebrate the end of the semester by having a good excuse for binge reading! *CONFETTI*

Here’s my TBR for the event…

1. Coin toss — Vampire Academy:
2 books I really want to read for the throwback event were Shatter Me and Vampire Academy; I flipped a coin, and VA won!

2. Something you want to do — The Scorpio Races:
Because really, who doesn’t want to ride water horses?

3. Book-to-film — Gerald’s Game:
One of the throwback bingo squares is a book from my birth year (1992), so I was already planning on reading Gerald’s Game by Stephen King and watching the Netflix adaptation!

4. Green on the cover — The Opposite of Innocent:
This is an eARC I just received recently for a story told in verse, so, 1) I’ll be knocking out an ARC from my TBR, and 2) verse novels are typically very quick reads!

5. Wear the same hat — In An Absent Dream:
Hats give me headaches after a while, so I wanted to pick something short for this one.

6. Beautiful spine — The Book of Hidden Things:
Just… look at it. You can’t tell in the picture, but it has gold foiling all along the spine.

7. Seventh book — Mapping the Interior:
I’ve been itching to read this, and it’s another short pick, just in case I don’t get to read quite as much as I hope to for the readathon!

BOOKTUBER SHOUT-OUTS:

Lately, I’ve been getting really into booktube, and friends are always asking me who my favorite booktubers are, so I thought I’d give you guys a fairly comprehensive list of my recent faves! Click the photos for links to their channel pages!

booksandlala.png
Kayla (Lala) focuses heavily on thrillers and contemporary titles of MG, YA, NA, and Adult age ranges! She’s super fun and does a lot of very unique videos.

bookswithemilyfox

Emily is the first booktuber I ever really liked, and still tied for my #1 fave spot; she’s witty, reads a big variety (but especially sci-fi and fantasy), is a major supporter of libraries, and her accent is GORGEOUS.

gabbyreads
Gabby is tied with the first 2 for my #1 favorite booktuber spot! She’s hilarious, down to earth, gives very honest reviews, and has a super adorable puppers. ♥

peruseproject
I think every booktube viewer probably knows who Regan is, but I wanted to include her just in case. She’s fun, bubbly, and reviews a really big variety of titles (mostly YA and MG)!

aclockworkreader
Hannah is so fun and sweet, and she does some of the zaniest videos (definitely check out her “playlist” videos – she has a new one for the new Panic! album that is perfect)!

pagesandpens
Julie is both a reader and a writer, and she focuses a lot on contemporary romance titles with a lot of NA and Adult – so if you’re looking for steamy recs, she’s a great one to watch!

samanthareading
I only “met” Samantha a couple of months ago for the Sob-A-Thon that she helped host, but she is so nice and her videos are lovely, so she’s already become a fave!

thoughtsontomes
If you prefer a booktuber who posts a lot of reviews (rather than mostly hauls/wraps/TBRs) and discussions (like her “Trope Talk” series!), I highly recommend checking out Sam!

peterlikesbooks
Peter is so freaking bubbly and charming and hilarious, and literally one of the only channels that I have ever subscribed to within the first minute of the FIRST video. He’s also an openly gay man and gives own-voice reviews for m/m books, which I love!

perpetualpages
Holy diverse recs, Batman – Adriana is one of my absolute FAVES for reviews of books with diverse rep, and they have such a way with words, too!

jesreadsbooks
Jes is someone I met through bookstagram, and it’s been so cool watching her channel grow. She’s so sweet and is always there for me when I need someone to talk to, plus I just love her reviews.

alliembooks
I think I met Allie through Twitter, and I have come to totally love the content she produces! She recommends fantastic diverse titles, and she’s so sweet and lovely!

Okay, guys, that’s all I’ve got for shout-outs today! These are the booktubers that I immediately want to watch new videos from, regardless of what the topic is. Watching them has actually inspired me tremendously and I’ve been considering creating a channel of my own, so let me know if you guys think I should give it a whirl or just stick to blogging! ♥

Haha! Been there – not with that exact book obviously, but with others that were definitely waaaaaaay above what the average 14-year-old reads in terms of content. My mom always tried to monitor what I read, but I could slip some past her sometimes. 😛

You have a great TBR! I looooved Vampire Academy when I read the series in high school; I’m definitely due for a reread of those books soon! Very jealous but very excited to hear your thoughts on In An Absent Dream. 🙂 I’m having the toughest time choosing a book for the book-to-movie challenge, because I generally am just not a fan of movies or TV in general.

You mentioned some of my favorite BookTubers! I watch Kayla, Hannah, Adriana, and Allie regularly. And, of course, I love Julie’s channel! I got to hang out with her at BookExpo this year, and she’s just as awesome in person. Good luck with your reading during the BookTubeAThon! (PS- you should absolutely start a channel if it’s something you want to do!)
